On new profiles make them use a captcha for the first 10 posts.

The captcha should be constructed like this.

10 pictures of famous places around the world. Make the random.

Make the poster answer what the picture is and VOILA!

Forum spam free :)

that would be good idea too. depending on what modules are available for the forum software.

It's gotten worse with the spamming. So far our attempts (even banning) have been barely successful. We will look into it again (although captchas are a general nuisance for humans these days). If we only knew.... :/

I just installed a check agains http://www.stopforumspam.com maybe this works...

I've been a moderator on a busy site for the past ten years and this plugin works - most of the time. It does depend on the moderators reporting the spammer and there seems to be some persistent spammer IP addresses that do get through but overall it should be a good addition.

Thanks for adding it. :)

Bill

It showed up so much of new spamming. I had the thought, that s.b. might actually pay some "north korean" whatever persons to spam us ??? All the spamming must be done by persons spending time to do this meaningless actions manually.

Should we say so in our sign up form, that we just do the "uncomfortable" countermeasures because of  spammers?

@phoenix: thanks for all the reports over the past weeks. it has helped to drop the response time immensely.

@chol: no spam so far. the filter seems to work, so hopefully no extra (hard) captchas here any time.

So keep the fingers crossed. :)

Yeah, seemingly works now! Thanks for the sanitation.

There was one so far... caught by Bill, of course.  ;D

hopefully it works out. spam stinks.

if you need a moderator holler, im available.
send me a PM if interested.

A lot less though. It's a good start. :)

I have been using AbyssGuard for clients websites. It works really well for stopping spam among other threats. It requires some setup, not a simple plugin.

I'm personally glad this topic has been revived. Spam definitely needs to be addressed on this forum. I just did a test registration and the only challenge to my registration was a simple captcha that was very easy to read. I would recommend the following:

Verification questions in addition to the captcha.

Quote from the link below:

QuoteAs for the questions, define 10-20 questions and ask for 3 at registration. That will shuffle them and make it so that bots don't store your Q&A easily.
