I see that connections are so slow, many people say that the FREEBSD systems are slow, is that true?

I'd say it depends. Fragmentation is a speed killer when not addressed. Checksumming can be, too. Switches and cables even.

There are a lot of variables, but as Michael was trying to point out: it's not possible to generalise.

Cheers,

Here is a interesting reading about it:

https://github.com/ocochard/netbenches

ref.: https://forum.opnsense.org/index.php?topic=10356.msg47699#msg47699

Another good reference is: https://calomel.org/

Some piece of metal, like some cards from Tilera and others vendors, with a good driver implementation can do a good work.

Intel's DPDK can get the job done, but will require some hard work to put all together and get the heavy dutty work done!

I tested with Chelsio T580 cards and received 22Gbit without tuning :)
