Questions about wifi-calling/ePDGs

Of late, we've been having loads of issues with our cell phones not getting calls (ie, they don't ring, but then there's a voicemail waiting), or when we make calls, it's just dead air for 20-30 seconds and then finally starts ringing. Problem vanishes if we switch from wifi to mobile network.
For the longest time, I blamed my cell carrier and/or my wifi. Changed carriers, same issue. Changed wifi, same issue. Very odd. So, with nowhere else to look, I wondered if there's something that might be causing OPNsense to drop wifi-calling connections, especially if idle for a while? Ie, we leave the phone untouched for 4hrs, then try to make a call...would OPNsense have some kind of issue with re-establishing the ePDG connection? Some sort of timeout maybe?
I know I'm grasping at straws, but figured I'd reach out to the experts and see if anyone knew!
Setup:
* OPNsense (current version)
* Wifi via Ruckus AP, with ePDGs enabled. Ruckus has ruled out all possible issues on their end after way too many hours on the phone with them. Tested with a Unifi AP and had same results, so I begrudgingly agree with Ruckus.
* Android 12/13 phones (same issue occurs for people visiting this location and using wifi)
* All devices seem to work fine/better when not on our building wifi

Many people have had this issue, myself included. None of thr post about it are ever followed up. There are hundreds of reddit posts on the same issue. On Pfsense, apparently it works fine after switching firewall to conservative. I haven't seen any solutions for Opnsense. Probably why I'll jump back over. Having wifi calling is pretty important to me.

I've had this issue for years w/opnsense. I temporarily switched my home over to a fortinet 30e amd had zero issues with wifi calling. I've had to turn the feature off on my phone.
When the issue happens, I turn off wifi on my phone, then turn it back on after a few seconds. Bam, wifi calling works for a while. Ot does seem that opnsense is dropping the connection and my android doesn't know this and try to reconnect. During this time data/internet works fine. I've not has a chance to revisit the logs to see what is happening. Also odd, iphones don't seem to have this problem.not sure what the difference is between iOS and Android in regards to wifi calling though.

Dunno, the exact same setting is there at Firewall - Settings - Advanced - Firewall optimization.

I'm disappointed that no one at the top chooses to followup on this. I gave up on Opnsense because of so many issues almost a year ago, but thought I'd come back and give it another try. Brand new install, with not much special going on yet. Bam, wi-fi calling sporatic. I get the message from AT&T sorry, your call can not be completed, please try again later. Turn off Wi-Fi and poof, it works. So I am thinking a port is blocked. All we need to do is find out which one.
