OPNsense on Netgate SG-2220

As pfsense runs on it I'd assume OPNsense should run on it but there no guarantee. I notice that effectively that product is end-of-life and it's also sold out, you wouldn't really want to buy that would you? There's plenty of products mentioned in the forums and you could actually support the project by considering one of these: https://www.deciso.com/product-catalog/

If you'd said that in the first place I wouldn't have typed so much. Why don't you just try it and see if OPNsense installs OK?

I am in the process of switching most of my machines to opnsense and tried this when I was having issues with an SG-2220 and after I selected the usb stick to boot too it started loading and then stopped.  Not sure why but I was bummed out.  Customer not ready for me to replace hardware so I restoed pfsense.

I just tried to install OPNsense 20.7 on Netgate SG-2220.  It stalls on installation on the serial console.  Funny thing is that also the pfsense 2.4.5x stock download also has troubles on the installation and stalls on the serial console.  Come to find out that it's required to make a special request to Netgate to get an ADI pfsense image that allows a clean serial installation of pfsense.  Read somewhere that the Intel Atom used has some bugs that needs a workaround.  In other words the Netgate SG-2220 is proprietary and requires a proprietary image.

I'm bummed but I successfully have migrated my two router/firewall setup to two PCEngines APU2 boxes and successfully migrated all of my previous configurations.  Success !  Unfortunately, I cannot transition my SG-2220 from pfsense to OPNsense.  Bummer as I have a mSATA drive and a 802.11n WiFi mPCIe installed.  Should probably sell it.

Have you tried to set kern.vty="vt" as described here: https://forum.opnsense.org/index.php?topic=4549.0

Thats what was keeping me from booting first time, but when i changed it everthing was fine. No hangs any more.

That should be the default nowadays anyway. (2016 vs. 2020)
