So, Im fairly new to VMs and only use in regard to Win11 WSL really. Was thinking and been reading up on doing what the title of this post states, but I have enough issues to where I cant even seem to get vlans working properly on my setup, hence a ton of anxiety. Have never really been one to look up how to do something often, esp since following someones instructions on starting vlan on reddit thread did not work at all for me. Plus i get harassed if i am new or dont use proper english always there. I am using a desktop with an i5, 16gb ddr4, dual port 10gbit intel nic, ssd (adding more drives if i get converted to also having the file server), etc, so it should be able to handle it since just opnsense barely touches the resources. I just didn't wanna grab up another machine with a nice nic to host media and other file operations, as I'm saving up to get a server with hopefully an a100 or several or better in it for AI and to use as some sort of maybe homelab setup. Figured I'd come here for feedback and hopefully some measure of instruction before i jump in head first and figure it out as i go on my own as per usual. Im getting too old to keep paying for learning hard way and not asking for help anymore. Just wanted to use copyparty since it seemed like the best option to both be my file server & google replacement & media server, etc with most options. And Idk how else to go about using both except for proxmox, as im newbie to vms somewhat as i mentioned prior. I'd desperately like to know where I went wrong on vlans also, as my disconnect happens with getting an ip thatll connect on networks outside my usual lan. i can assign one thru the client but cant access anything and figure its more than the firewall rules (I am making those more complicated than they need to be, i feel). Thanks again! Sorry so long-winded!
