OPNSense Site-to-Site VPN with ASUS Merlin - Any Success Stories?
« on: July 27, 2024, 07:40:44 pm »
Hello everyone,

I'm currently trying to set up a site-to-site VPN between OPNSense and an ASUS router running Merlin firmware. Has anyone had any luck with this configuration?

Here’s a bit of context:

- The OPNSense box is on my main site, handling most of the network duties.
- The ASUS Merlin router is at a remote location.
- I’m aiming for a stable and secure VPN connection between these two sites.
- I’ve followed various guides and tried different configurations but haven’t achieved a successful connection yet. If anyone has managed to get this working, could you share your setup or any tips that might help?

Specifically, I'm looking for:

- VPN protocol you used (OpenVPN, IPSec, etc.)
- Configuration settings on both OPNSense and the Merlin router
- Any particular pitfalls or troubleshooting steps that were crucial in getting it to work

Any advice or insights would be greatly appreciated!
