Router on a stick, can't access internet

[FIXED] - I reset OPNsense to factory defaults and re-did everything from scratch.

I think the problem was that when I first tried to configure the router I set the WAN gateway to 192.168.172.1, which is the LAN gateway. duh!

Hi, new OPNsense user here.

My OPNsense router hardware only has one NIC so I've configured it as a router on a stick with an 8 port managed switch. Incoming internet is plugged into switch port 8, which is configured as untagged VLAN 10.

The router is plugged into switch port 7, which is configured for tagged VLAN 1 (the LAN) and tagged VLAN 10 (the WAN).

I've set a static IP for the LAN as 192.168.172.1 (serving DHCP in the range 100-254). The WAN gets it IP via DHCP and has been assigned 108.4.13x.xxx, so I know it's talking to FiOS.

The LAN DHCP is working as I've plugged a laptop into switch port 1 and it gets IP 192.168.172.100.

From the OPNsense Diagnostic menu I can't ping google.com.
From the Diagnostics menu I can successfully resolve google.com in DNS.

Any ideas? thank you for any suggestions you might provide this newbie...

p.s. the console config shows:

LAN (re0_vlan1) -> v4: 192.168.172.1/24
WAN (re0_vlan10) -> v4/DHCP4: 108.4.13x.xxx
