Is there any way to switch to the 64bit release from the command line? Or should I do a fresh install and restore my 32bit xml?

Take a backup of your configuration
do a fresh install and restore the configuration.

There is a config import option in the installer, but Health and Insight graphs will no transport properly. For RRD you can export it along with the config in the GUI exporter under System: Configuration: Backup. For Insight there is no solution yet.
I know this inline upgrade method worked prior to forking, but since the addition of package-based distribution in the form of FreeBSD's new package manager in 15.1 this isn't a viable transition anymore.
Cheers,
