wan only getting /128 from comast business

just an fyi with my udmp i get the /55 i am asking for.  with opnsense the wan interface only gets a /127.  I have tried enabling prefix hints and also tried ipv4 connectivity.  NO avail.  Any ideas?

Can you be more specific? /127 is really weid considering the smallest subnet size must be /64.

Sorry /128.   It's pretty self-explanatory. When they open sense firewall gets an IP address. It gets a/ 128 instead of a/55. Don't know why. If I put my unify UDM pro back it gets the/ 55 and I can get IPv6 subnets to all my other VLANs.

Sorry /128.   It's pretty self-explanatory.

It's really not, especially when you have to correct the only (unverifiable) fact in your report. ;)

ifconfig output helps, logs help, OPNsense version helps (this is the general discussion forum, not one for a version series), a screenshot of your WAN settings also helps.

If that /128 is on the WAN then it matters not. It should work without a GUA on the WAN. I'd be more interested in seeing the log entries or dhcp6c.

I went looking through noted i kept about firewalls and bsd...and found something i had forgottena bout:

I have tried three different machines with both pf and OPNSense.  all of them have shown this behavior.  I had a netgear gogabit modem but while ipv6 worked as expected I would randomly loose connectivity between 60-300 seconds for one second.  which nic was used did not affect things on any machine.  I currently have an arris 6141 modem.  nothing bsd based i have tried opn/pf sense has worked correctly with it in terms of ipv6.  I am wondering if there is some weird compatibility issue i am hitting here....

Hence my comment about looking at the dhcp6c logs. Go to Interfaces->Settings and set Ipv6 DHCP log level to Info. Reboot.


Once its back up, go to system->log files->general and filter on dhcp6c. That should give you a clue or you can post the logs here and we'll take a look.

There is something else to try. Takes a bit more work but I have used it in the past to find out why one device works and another doesn't. You'll need a managed switch to do it properly, one that allows port mirroring. You can then use wireshark to capture the traffic to and from the ISP <> modem/opnsense and see what the difference is. If you want to do that and PM me the packet captures for both working and non working I can take a look and try and work out the problem.
