DHCP Registration (DNS) vs Dynamic DNS (DHCP)

I want the client names to be automatically registered in DNS.  It seems both of these seem to do that, but what is the difference?  Are both needed?

Under DHCP, we have Dynamic DNS.
"Enter the dynamic DNS domain which will be used to register client names in the DNS server. Note: Leave blank to disable dynamic DNS"

Under DNS, we have DHCP Registration
"If this option is set, then machines that specify their hostname when requesting a DHCP lease will be registered in Unbound, so that their name can be resolved."

Dynamic DNS refers to external providers such as dyndns.com, where you can create a dns name an have it point to your system, in this case it's using that domain name to send to the local clients on your LAN, so they use that name. Under DNS it's referring to the hostnames which could be 'MS_SERVER' or 'NAS' etc. When the client asks for a lease from dhcp it can send it's host name, so for example as as I said, one of my machines is called 'SERVER-2019 ', so it sends that to the dhcp server and it gets registered in unbound, but only the machine name. So the full address of that machine, if I used dynamic DNS and it was dyndns would be SERVER-2019.dydns.org, otherwise it will use whatever domain you have set in general settings such as opnsense.local.


At least that's how I would interpret it.
