load balance backend servers with failover

Is it possible to automatically load balance over some backend servers for high availability purposes?

I'm running a mesos cluster with 3 master servers and I'm tinkering with opnsense but I cannot find any way to do this. It seems that the loadbalacing thing checks all servers in a group for ok and stops working if any servers is down. I found the failover but that seems to be restricted to master/backup and cannot be extended to 3 servers.

What I'm looking for is what I normally use HAproxy for but it would be nice to skip this step since that requires two more nodes...

this sounds odd. Could you post screenshots of your opnsense Load Balancer configuration? (Pool Setup, Pool Status, Virtual Server Setup, Virtual Server Status)
