Trying to check the modem's actual speed

If I'm not mistaken, there is nothing in the GUI which can give me the info of the connection speed of the modem: is there a command I can type through CLI that would give me the speed that the modem's connected?

It depends on what you connect on the WAN side - could be a DSL modem, could be a cable/docsis modem, could be lte modem, ...
I think the OPNsense forum is the wrong place to ask such a question - it would be better to contact the vendor of your modem!

Nothing to do with the modem's vendor, I was talking about a way through CLI to interrogate the WAN port (in my case PPPoE connection) in order to get the info on the connection speed.

Besides, yes, you can get that info by connecting to the IP address of the modem's GUI if the modem isn't locked, but I was asking in OPNsense a CLI command if available or to have a feature/functionality added to OPNsense. This way also having a locked modem would allow you to get at least your connection speed info at hand.

Indeed, if the modem is locked (think of the HG612 Openreach provide here in the UK) then you cannot access its GUI, telnet/SSH to it, no stats, it's a just a kind of black box connected to your OPNsense firewall...

Now, I'll try to clarify further (and lets' forget about the modem locked/unlocked): I don't want to interrogate the modem's WAN port, I'm talking about the WAN port on the OPNsense side... I just want to know if within an OPNsense shell/CLI there are some commands which allow me to interrogate the OPNsense WAN port in order to get the info on the connection speed.

The answer is no. with an HG612 you unlock it and use the second nic rj45 to access the modem stats from your pc. something like dslstats does the job nicely.
