Can't get Opnsense box not getting IP on LAN or WAN

I'm building OPNsense on a new Protectli FW6C system. It installs fine and I do the initial configuration while disconnected (as I am using my Internet connection). I've plugged a monitor into the HDMI port and used the text setup.

Odd thing is I can't seem to get connected to the Internet or get a LAN IP. I haved tried several times to reset it and made sure it has the proper LAN DHCP scope but I get not Internet IP and no LAN IP. I'm only get APIPA addresses locally. On the monitor of my OPNsense box I see:

em0 link state changed to UP when I plug it in and down when I unplug it but still I get no IP.

I've tried to reset to the defaults and do the setup twice and it doesn't work.

Is there something I'm missing?

Thanks so much!

Take the blue "Cisco" com-cable and install OPNsense via the terminal (use serial OPNsense image).
Configure OPNsense and follow onscreen steps.
Make sure you define the LAN and WAN interfaces correctly !!
Activate and configure the DHCP server on the LAN interface.

WAN port = connect your internet cable to it with a UTPcat5e cable
LAN port = connect your pc/laptop/switch to it with a UTPcat5e cable  (after you succesfully installed OPNsense)

Your pc/laptop should be able to access the OPNsense webgui via a webbrowser.
Continue the final setup and follow the onscreen steps.

Additionally if your WAN interface uses DHCP, you cannot use DHCP on the LAN interface. Commonly a firewall has got a static IP address on LAN and servers as a DHCP server for other devices in that LAN.

In general you can have only one interface configured via DHCP. Most commonly the WAN interface.

For some reason opnsense likes to make the LAN em0 and the WAN em1, should be the other way but whatever.
Anyway, the protectli is labeled as em0=WAN, em1=LAN.
Reverse your cables and you're good.

Why do you think it should be the other way round? I mean it has been set since OPNsense exists that the lowest interface is LAN. And how should OPNsense know what's printed on the case of some arbitrary device?
