Hi All <

I have VLAN created on LAN interface . However when I attch that LAN interface cable to my PC I dont get any IP rather APIPA assigned with 169.x.x.x. But when I read DHCP logs see :
2025-02-20T16:26:35    Error    dhcpd    receive_packet failed on vlan03: Device not configured
2025-02-20T16:26:35    Error    dhcpd    receive_packet failed on vlan02: Device not configured
2025-02-20T16:26:35    Error    dhcpd    receive_packet failed on vlan01: Device not configured

These all are 3 VLANS.

Howevr even LAN interface dont assign IP whereas all DHCP enabled all settings are correct. But whrn I reboot firewall box or reload all services then I get Ip instantly. Any idea and hints on this ? Thanks

Finally got hold of 50% of issue. As removed all VLANsinterfaces  . Created 1 new VLAN TAG 30 on LAN2 interface and TAG40 on LAN interface . Now switch routing from LAN interface VLAN on TAG40 . However stil not getting IP from other LAN2 interfcae created VLAN TAG30 with same settings in switch and in opnsnese. Any guidance or areas to look for ? Thanks

Thanks !

Yeah it was strange As I am getting VLANS assigned IPs for VM in Promxox perfectly fine but LAN2 interface where I ceated new VLANS not still getting UP assigment. Chnaged switch to Netgear smart switch same issue . ATtching Proxmox and OPnsese screen shots for further details
So LAN interface at 10.10.60.10 having 2 VLAN's 10.10.70.10 and 10.10.80.10 tagged to switch also got support from netgear side all looks pefectly fine but VLANS not getting IPs but as soon as I switch other port on switch than assigned to VLAN get main LAN2 interface DHCP 10.10.60.x adress but not VLANS.

All others than created on LAN2 interface working fine on Proxmox VM's and assigning IP thrugh VLANS.

Hello Everyone!

I am facing a issue where smart switch configured with VLAN's not assigning IP thru Opnsnese. HEre are details :
1- I created VLAN on OPT1 - 10.10.20.10 interface
VLANS tagged as :
  • USER[30]-10.10.30.10
  • IOT[40]-10.10.40.10
  • DMZ[50]-10.10.50.10
2- Assigned interfaces all are active
3- Enabled DHCP ranges
4- Attached smart switch in setup confogued VLANS as follows:
 - Tagged port 8 - Opnsense cable from OPT1 interface to switch
 - Untagged port 1,2 and port port 3,4 and port 5,6

However when I insert PC port to switch port 1 or 2 dont get IP which I am suppose dto get from USER VLAN 10.10.20.100-10.10.30.200 ranges
Same happens t other untagged ports whcih were tagged /trunk port 8 for opnsnes OPT1 interface

Any help or direction if I am mking any mistakes.

Thanks

Hi All !

I am trying to shift up exiting AT&T network through OPNsense firewall. I got Lenovo think Center mini with 2 etgernet interfaces and 8Gb RAM and 250GBSSD. I wil luse this to install Opnsense . So existing network is AT&T fiber connected to AT&T router then I have 2 wifi extenders at home. My exiting Promxox attched to one of extenders .

PROMXO runing OPNSense and having 2 interfaces LAN 10.10.10.0/24 and OPT 10.10.20.0/24 . All running fine so far.

Bit confused as I will attach main WAN to newly installed OPNsense machine so what to do with exiting AT&T router then ? But if I discard AT&T router then will have to put new wifi access point on OPnssne LAN port right ?

Kindly review and suggest any best possible solution and guidance.

Hi!
I need help as I am doing the following :
Use Case : Created 3 VM's on Proxmox server and routed these VM's through LAN network

Problem : I can see opnsense assigning IP to these machines from assigned ubnet 192.168.50.1/24. However when these VM;s try to access internet shows error it can not be reached.

I created 2 networks besides WAN and assigned them differnet addressing as LAN-192.168.50.1/24 and DMZ-192.168.60.1/24
Attched all 3 VM's to LAN

Any help or guideine appreciated !
