23.7 Legacy Series / Configuring outbound policy for devices

Hello,

I am coming from using Peplink switches. They had the ability to configure what they call "outbound policy". Basically, I could assign an IP or MAC address and assign which interface it would use for outgoing traffic.

For anything not directly assigned, it would fall through to the Default rule at the bottom, which you could weight each of the WAN connections.

Where do I go to configure something similar in OPNsense?

I have NextDNS working with Unbound DNS. However, all queries show up as "OPNsense", the name I configured in OPNsense's settings.

Is there a way for OPNsense to append the device hostname to DNS requests? So when it sees "AppleTV" send a DNS request, it will use the hostname "AppleTV-XXXXX.dns.nextdns.io" as the name it uses for the request?

Prepend the name to the provided domain (the name should only contain a-z, A-Z, 0-9 and -). Use -- for spaces.
For "John Router", you would use John--Router-XXXXX.dns.nextdns.io as your DNS-over-TLS endpoint.

I tried to email the distro in the plugin, however, there appears to be something wrong with their domain/email routing. Gmail is unable to deliver email to their address.

Sharing the issue here in case any of them check the forums.

I was looking at logs tonight and noticed these log rows don't seem to
be styled correctly. I've done a hard reload and dumped my cache with
no luck.

Reporting > Unbound DNS > Details tab

I might be getting old, but I much prefer Discord over 90s style forums, myself

Of course, I am already using Discord for gaming, so there's also the convenience factor.

23.7 Legacy Series / Update OPNsense from LAN interface

Hello,

New OPNsense user as of today. I have to do some more work before I can migrate over my WANs to the new box that is running OPNsense.

I am able to connect to the web interface of OPNsense. I can use the ping utility to ping devices on the local LAN.

Is there a way to, temporarily, allow internet access via the LAN so I can check for updates? I am running the version on the website - 23.7, but figured it couldn't hurt to check for updates before I go any further.

My fall back option is going to be to connect another ethernet cable to the WAN0 and plug it into my LAN.
