I finally got 19.1.b_360 installed with 11.2 HBSD and restored from my back up.

I did a check updates again and got this (yes I did reboot several times)

Will this downgrade my 19.1 to 18.7.6 or am I reading this wrong?
I sure seem to be making big messes the last few days :)

ok i got it.

The original download and stick were and are just fine.

Do a clean Install of 18.6 HBSD

DO the update/upgrade making sure to use production to 18.7.8

Now after the reboot you can switch to development and update/upgrade to 19.1.b_306

Now after the reboot you can use your backed up config to restore.

At least this worked for me.

I did just that to come against this update/upgrade dead end.

I'm going to leave it go and get some sleep here and reinstall and restore one more time but I think i will download the 18.6    11.2 HBSD again and make sure again it's a good download to burn to a stick.

I am right here with you.
Been trying to get the 18.6 HBSD installed and working and when I did I got the stuck update/upgrade also.
I get a 403 forbidden on the gui and can not ssh into anything though.
Funny part is I can still access the internet from everything.

Did you end up powering down and rebooting and if so what happened?

well lol I went and downloaded the 18.7.6 HBSD and after installing it several times and trying to get it all configured I gave up. Seemed to constantly lock up and crash so instead I installed one last time and just imported my last good backup and that worked.

Haven't tried the patch yet. maybe in a few hours if I still need it after doing the updates and changing back to development.

Next obstacle is changing the wan nic to a different one. Lets see how bad I mess this up :)

That's why I was trying to do a fresh install and reconfigure. Seemed like that was an easier route than using the back up config.

Is a proxy that is located on another system and not on OPNsense box required?

Proxy is already preinstalled on OPNsense? You just need C-ICAP plugin and Clamav

Are you asking me if a proxy is pre installed?

As for DNS servers I don't recommend adguard.

I use uBLOCK Origin through firefox as a add on and it blocks much more than adguard. Not just a little bit but a whole lot like on one site 56 more blocks.

I'm also searching and trying DNS servers myself currently.

Trying to avoid IDS/IPS and anything that needs a proxy but it looks more and more like that might be the final solution.

Just so I am clear on this.

To use clamav to scan live I would need to use a proxy server located on a different system correct? This would be using the fresh clam definitions and not i-cap.

I have done searches and my old eyes hurt from the reading and so far it has not been clear about using clamav to scan and whether theres a need for a separate machine for running the proxy.

In the smart plugin on the dashboard I show this.

I'm using a old Acer Aspire (AX1200-B1792A) desktop that had vista on it and it has external card readers and such.
For home use this little box handles everything great for what I use. I do plan on a purpose built box after I learn my way around OPNsense in the future.

Since I never use the external card readers how can I tell smart there is no da0 or da1 so they don't show on the dashboard? Is this possible?

It isn't a big deal I'm just trying to clean up whats shown is all.

Second question: Does smart run on it's own or do tests need to be scheduled through cron?

what worked for me was do the wan first

i used a 56 for prefix delegation and also enabled prefix hint

save and apply

on the lan I did track interface and 0 for the prefix id

save and apply

then reboot

IGNORE it if your gateway on the dashboard says offline for now and try the site. The offline dhcp6 can be dealt with after you have it all working and ignore whatever you have for addresses. some will be link local and some not.

after everything comes back up unplug your cat 5 or turn off the wireless on the system your using plug back in or turn on the wireless and got to http://www.kame.net/ and you should see the turttle moving. If not you may have to reset your modem, after it come up boot the OPN box then boot the system your on. Of course shut everything down first.

Make sure you have no extra gateways! thats what my major malfunction was.

IPv6 works for everything on my network now including the cell phones and 2 nas's

did you put in a prefix ID on the lan? Should use track interface for the lan and not dhcp


Did you configure the wan interface for dhcp and put a prefix delegation in?

One problem I found after 2 days of configuring was there were several extra gateways and when I deleted the extras and had only one for dhcp4 and only one for dhsp6 both made the default gateways everything fell into place and i now have it working for Spectrum.

I also added DNS for both dhcp4 and dhcp 6

When I have the web page for the dashboard up and I scroll down to watch one of the graphs it decides to scroll itself back to the top after a very short time.

If it is possible how can I change and stop that from happening?

EDIT: it does this after approximately one minute.
