I am having trouble getting started. Trying to use a Soekris box like i used to with mono wall but the menu wont come up to configure opnsense. I managed to get ssh running and ssh to the soekris running 15.7 nano but still no menu. Any ideas?

The root menu should be there even when you use SSH. What kind of login are you getting instead? Have you set the serial console to 115200?

Yes using 115200. When it boots up it prompts for username. I type root. then it logs in without the password and goes to the command line.
Also i am using 15.7 nano i386 image.

Below is the output from login
This is on a soekris box with no vga connected via console. It previously ran monowall with no problem.
Also i've tried reimaging the CF card several times, and tried other images.
Could this have something to do with etc/ttys?
If i cant get the menu from the console is there a way to start the web service so i can configure it through the web?
I can set an IP using ifconfig but can't currently connect to the web interface as it is not bound or not running.
I'd be ok with that approach as well assuming that all works ok.

Out of curiosity, which Soekris model do you have?
I have a net6501-30, so could have a look if yours is a net6501 model too.

Memory disks are being set up, but at some point the init system likely dies from a OOM kill or something similar (/usr/local/etc/rc.bootup). We'll need the full boot sequence as seen from the serial to narrow this down.
You only have 128 MB RAM, yes/no/maybe?

Ill do a full capture when i get home.
I hadn't really looked into the amount of ram until you mentioned it in your post. It is actually only 64MB.
http://soekris.com/products/eol-products/net4521.html
That may be the problem. I think monowall only required 64 and it was an older build.
Is there a way to configure it to run on 64MB? I'm only using the FW features and was considering the IPSec vpn features.

The boot script is killed on boot. That's as bad as it gets. You may get lucky by disabling var/tmp MFS in the config. Remove the following from /conf/config.xml:
<use_mfs_tmpvar/>
However, that's not the amount of RAM that'll keep you happy for long with OPNsense. Another issue is going to be upgrades which land in RAM, at least with /var MFS enabled -- worst case packages 10-50 MB + kernel 20 MB + base system 40 MB. The nano image is also just 1GB per slice and already at 75% full. I'm sorry. t1n1wall or SmallWall are better alternatives for your hardware.
PS: No need for a capture in this case.
