Hello there,

right now, we are running the rather old version

OPNsense 17.1-amd64
FreeBSD 11.0-RELEASE-p7
OpenSSL 1.0.2k 26 Jan 2017

and would like to upgrade, are there any known problems to be expected and how do I upgrade? Simply through the GUI? Which version would you recommend? 17.7.12 ?

Best regards,

Jan

Hi Jan,

The version you will be able to upgrade to is 17.7.12. It likely has less issues than 17.1.

However, going to 17.7 requires you to do a minor upgrade on 17.1 and then a major upgrade and then another minor update since 17.1 is roughly a year old and we do 2 major releases per year.

Cheers,
Franco

Hey Franco,

thanks a lot for your reply, so I simply need to use the webinterface for upgrading and everything should work just like before?

Cheers,

Jan

That's the plan, yes. Simply update from the GUI. :)

Make sure to study the compatibility notes for 17.7 as shown in the GUI before the major upgrade. It has notes for backwards-incompatible changes, but they were not plenty if I recall correctly.

Cheers,
Franco

...if I skip some major updates I ALWAYS do a fresh install and import the config. Takes just some 20 minutes and if something goes wrong, simply put in the old SSD/HDD/CF-card and live goes on... :-)
kind regards

Hey you two,

thanks a lot for your reply, are there any documentations on updates in general?
When using the fresh-install approach, is there anything to take care of? Probably same interface-config?

Cheers,

Jan
