UI suggestions\requests re: aliases & FW rules
« on: December 31, 2017, 09:19:50 am »
Hello,

First - a suggestion - it might be good to have a dedicated forum for UI\UX topics.

Next, two features that I have used in the past that I think would be great additions to OPNsense:

  • Have aliases show their contents via popup when hovering over them wherever they are configured - such as in FW rules.
  • Add a new icon next to each enabled FW rule that shows state details via popup when hovering - info like eval, packets, bytes, states active, states created, etc.

Thanks.

Hi cyberzeus,

Such suggestions should be recorded on GitHub as they tend to get lost in the volume of forum posts.

https://github.com/opnsense/core/issues

1. May best be implemented via API + JavaScript? An alias API is planned, maybe hitting this year. In any case before a full firewall rules API is added as the alias part is less overall work.

2. There was a thread somewhere where not too long ago where it was asked to put the rules stats into the overview table. Sadly no GitHub ticket. Hard to find it again...

Cheers,
Franco

First, I would like to thank @cyberzeus. He gave 2 great and really useful tips. But the problem is that if I am a design developer, I can create a lot more useful features on my sites and forums. You can do the same. It's not as hard as you might think. Anyone can engage in design forums and websites with a computer and the zeal to do what you like. You need to have free time to learn designs. Just a few evenings a week. This will be enough to ensure that after three months, you can already take orders. Good luck to everyone.
