Anyone have any experience with these?  I'm looking to migrate from OPNSense to one. Thanks

I have. They suck.
Great switches an APs though

Maybe the UI community forum, https://community.ui.com/ ?

Having said that, I do use a not-cloud Fiber Gateway (UXG-Fiber). Price/performance is great but of course not as many features as OPNsense. I use Technitium for DNS and don't use IDS at all + some region blocking (but not really necessary since I don't have any web services accessible from the internet). IPv6 is missing features but generally works.

What features are using on your OPNsense?

The more I think about it, the more I would only keep their In Wall Accesspoints and replace everything else with a different brand :)

Now if I could only somehow ditch the UniFi Controller too and have a webGUI on each In Wall itself...

Some new hack to flash EdgeSwitch Firmware on UniFi Switches would be fine too by the way!

Not many. I'm not having the success with OPNSense as others and haven't had luck getting help. Thanks

said the person who asked about switching fro OPNsense to Cloud Gateway, in the OPNsense forum and not the Unifi forum ;)

But hey, I get you. The Unifi community forum is a pita to even get to it.
And they make the same mistake as this forum by not using Discourse as forum software.

I am VERY HAPPY with that decision !!! :)

Discourse is pure crap!

Everytime I visit one i think to myself : Is this the future ?! I sure hope not! :(

But yeah...

The Ubiquiti Forum isn't exactly great either so it can be done even worse than Discourse :P

People who think they know everything are a great annoyance to those of us who do. (Isaac Asimov)

Don't know what you are talking about. Maybe bad setup selfhosted discourse?

Anyway, forums like TrueNAS or level1tech are IMHO far, far superior to this forum here.
Like it is not even a competition. Discourse is in a league of its own compared to this.

You don't know either apparently : Discourse for example blocks certain browsers because they think they are "Outdated" while they are absolutely NOT !!!

QuoteMaybe bad setup selfhosted discourse?
https://discourse.pi-hole.net/ is hosted on the Discourse CDN and something I visit very often, but would rather see Discourse NOT being used if I am completely honest!

After about 30 years of "Forum Experience" I can tell you that there are plenty of alternatives that are A LOT better !! ;)

Not sure if we are talking about some problem back in 2025 or now. Discourse works fine on Safari, Brave, Chrome, Edge, Firefox.
So 95% of browser share.

But either way, that is missing my main point.
For an active and healthy community, you need a good forum software.
And good forum software does not mean that @nero355 can visit the site from Opera Mobile ;) , but that the average user likes to use the software. And this without a doubt boiled down to two plattforms; Discourse and reddit.

OPNsense might get away with a clunky forum software and still have a healty community because it is niche. But it could be a barrier to entry for newcomers. Or it could end up in disussion always only involving the same five oldtimers from the forum. Which is totally fine if you consider yourself a "people come in, drop a question, get it answered by regulars, and drop out again" support forum. But this is not really a healthy community IMHO. That is just a support forum.

The single page endless scrolling interface of Discourse sucks. Plus there are not even buttons to jump to the first or last post.

QuoteThe single page endless scrolling interface of Discourse sucks.
Why?

Also that is probably not how you would use it. Normal use case is,
-you go to forum X
- see that there are "New (4)" four new threads since your last visit
- open all the new threads that interest you
- click on "dismiss New" to mark all as read.

You know what sucks here?
No live preview sucks.
The quoting sucks, you can't do normal multi quotes.
No code insert like

```bash
code
```
sucks.

QuotePlus there are not even buttons to jump to the first or last post.
It does. You can click on the top or bottom of the bar on the right.

Unlike here, there is always a header. So that "jump to bottom or top" is less really needed to begin with. Because the navigation does not suck and is not stuck in the nineties ;) which is not always a good thing and not always a bad thing. For people under 30y though...

And if you use anything else you get some crappy Basic HTML version where you can only read the forum partially... W-T-F ?!?!

QuoteBut either way, that is missing my main point.
You are missing the point too :

You are promoting an unhealthy Internet where only certain software/companies/brands have a monopoly and that's simply a horrible future that I do not wish to be part of !!!

QuoteFor an active and healthy community, you need a good forum software.
We already have one here!

QuoteAnd good forum software does not mean that @nero355 can visit the site from Opera Mobile ;)
Pale Moon actually which is probably the best browser out there if the standards on the internet did not got corrupted by a certain search and advertising company amongst others...

Quotebut that the average user likes to use the software.
The average user does not know what he/she wants and uses whatever you stuff under his/her nose !!!

This goes pretty much for everything : From Cars to Computers...

QuoteAnd this without a doubt boiled down to two plattforms; Discourse and Reddit.
Congrats : You just named the two most horrible platforms in the world as your favorite! LOL!

Reddit is barely readable without https://old.reddit.com/ replaced in the URL when you want to read a topic without all of their nonsense !!!

QuoteOPNsense might get away with a clunky forum software and still have a healty community because it is niche.
But it could be a barrier to entry for newcomers.
The forum software is based on UBB standards which are perfectly useable and a lot more logical than all the ``` and *** or whatever Discourse does for their markup crap...

You can't even simply use Enter for new lines : They are always spaced apart and only SHIFT+ENTER gets you a normal new line!
Another annoying thing is typing ":" as ": " each time because of the smilies integration : WHY ?!?!
GitHUB has the same nonsense by the way!

They are marked READ after opening them so your last step is unnecessary : Not so userfriendly after all, huh ?!

QuoteYou know what sucks here?
Nothing :)

QuoteNo live preview sucks.
There is a PREVIEW button : Use it.

QuoteThe quoting sucks, you can't do normal multi quotes.
You can easily click on the QUOTE button of each post and open them in a New Tab and combine them all together again later.
Super EASY and straightforward :)

In case you did not knew : CTRL+Click or Middle Mouse Button = Open link in New Tab

QuoteNo code insert like

```bash
code
```
sucks.
Which is just plan HORRIBLE in Discourse...

FYI : This is a CODE and /CODE block!
[quote] & [/quote]
[b] & [/b]
[i] & [/i]
[u] & [/u]
[img] & [/img]
[sub] & [/sub]
To name a few are soo much EASIER !!! :)

The way this forum does it is soo much simpler and user friendlier that there is no need to re-invent the wheel or warm water...

QuoteBecause the navigation does not suck and is not stuck in the nineties ;) which is not always a good thing and not always a bad thing.

If I am honest : I wish many times we all got stuck in the '90's and did not have this messed up world we live in these days!

* nero355 pushes PREVIEW button to check this huge post :P
