will 26.7 include the if_pppoe kernel module?

i am unsure if the "if_pppoe" kernel module is something made available in the freebsd 15 release, or if it something that the pfsense/netgate team created just for themselves and have not made it available otherwise?

Nope, legend has it it was not added to FreeBSD so nobody can "steal" it. It's funny for a kernel module that is built on code from OpenBSD.

The more interesting theory, however, is that in practice it's not something that FreeBSD itself would consider useful or effective.

I guess we'll never know?

Apart from the hype, what is it good for? I mean, apart from > 1 Gbps connections...
Intel N100, 4* I226-V, 2* 82559, 16 GByte, 500 GByte NVME, ZTE F6005

1100 down / 450 up, Bufferbloat A+

i currently have 3bps up and down fiber over pppoe.

with the option of upgrading to 8gbps up and down.

would it help then ?

but the other guys are hiding it away for themselves, then oh well...
