Hello if I could take a little time recently purchased a MacBook air (M3) and I would be testing it as an operating system as design and hopefully change from windows to macOS but also I would like to feel secure around public networks or perhaps minimise exploitation of my data and also machine knowing that OPNsense can run on many machines and also virtual machine but as for Mac or perhaps the software Parallels Desktop Pro which is designed for the macOS I would not be sure but just a small question if anyone has ever managed to compile Parallels Desktop Pro to be able to run OPNsense or configured it to work within the software and if they have has there been any issues.

You can run a variety of OS using UTM on M-Macs but each is a sandbox. Primary communication will still be with MacOS as the host OS so even if you were to run Opnsense in FreeBSD on the Mac it would not protect your Mac as a whole.

Buy a small travel router to protect you in public places. I happen to use a Mikrotik. There are many good brands and models reviewed on the net.
Deciso DEC697

Mac is already able to and no need to run OPNsense... use either Murus and/or LittleSnitch
