10GB Switch Recommendation

Hello

I am looking for a 10Gb Switch. 8-10 Ports (10 GB). All my important devices have 10GB NIC's.
I have a Cisco SG350XG but it's so loud I wanna get something quieter. My only "need" in terms of management is I wanna create 6 vlans (6 networks and 6 dhcp servers).
Suggestions?

That actually looks fantastic. I am assuming the SPF+ Fiber could take the SPF+ RJ45 connectors as well.

Of course, but I would always recommend fibre for 10G. Copper SFP+ just get awfully hot.

If you really are looking for copper only, I don't have a recommendation in a passively cooled desktop form factor, sorry.

Oh no this is fine. I have fiber spf+ connectors

MikroTik wired interface compatibility

As Patrick noted, see note 4 toward the middle. Also, some third-party UTP SFPs will not autonegotiate.

Lots of (mostly) RealTeks reviewed at STH. I don't believe the list is complete (it's from July). I would tend to agree with the Mikrotik recommendation (I have a CRS305-1G-4S+).

I like the CRS304-4XG-IN solution: big heat sink (but only 4 ports).

I have this switch and I'm very happy with it. I'm running SwitchOS, instead of RouterOS for easier configuration.

Well my goal is this;

In my Server room my OpnSense running VM and 10Gbps NIC. I want to connect to this new Switch Mikrotik and unless I change my 10Gbps RJ45 NIC to a Fiber NIC I will need to utilize a SPF+ RJ45 to connect from Switch to Opnsense. Then, I will run a fiber through my ducts across house to a 2nd Mikrotik [the 4 port] and then from there I would do the same, either change my NIC from SPF+/RJ45 to a Fiber, essentially making all things Fiber. The issue is I also would connect my TV and XBOX/PS5 to that switch, so regardless I will need SPF+ RJ45 connectors. I have a pack of 10 Cisco SPF Fiber connectors. I know a lot of this is "really, do you really need this" and half yes, I have several physical servers around the house [why cause its fun] and I like my NFS and SMB transfers to be fast. :)
But also the other half is I got my tax returns and I wanna have fun with stuff.

Quick consideration: Cost of replacing NIC vs. 10GBASE-T SFP+. It depends on your stock of fiber cables and your choice of NIC.

(Those 10 SFP+s are good for 5 links. If you run out, consider passive twinax SFP+ cables for short runs - cheap, and generally exempt from firmware lockout.)

I've been waiting for a lower-power 10GBASE-T transceiver. At the very least it's tough to find good power figures - a good, accurate datasheet or good review. I gambled on a sorta-random 2.5GBASE-T SFP+ (figuring it would have a RealTek transceiver), and kinda lost - it runs fairly warm and does not autonegotiate. It comes down to either "buy Mikrotik" (for Mikrotik switches) or "dig through the reviews", and deal with the heat.

@pfry What about "send an inquiry to fs.com presales"?

Ya lost me there. FS has 10GBASE-T transceivers, but with a 2.9W power rating and 30m limit, they're just another 28nm 88x3310, same as the Mikrotiks. Heh - they're probably all made in the same factory. Or did your point just fly right on by me? (Do I need a few hundred 100Gb ports...?)

They just offer a broad range of transceivers, coded to any manufacturer you like, are very well established, considered trustworthy and technically competent, so they might be the company to assist you in your search for a low power 10GBASE-T one. Or answer with a definite "it's not possibly to go below x W, because physics."

They are my #1 source for SFP/SFP+.

Got it, thanks. I've actually got all I need, and then some. But I'll keep them in mind.

It's too bad Marvell has little incentive to update their processes. They've apparently updated the Aquantia MAC+transceiver combo (which was a two-chip solution on a single package) - perhaps they'll offer the transceiver bit... eventually.

Not that I'm probably any sane reference, but do you need new equipment?
If you are like me and don't mind running retired enterprise gear ...

I'm using an Arista 7050TX-64 and a 7050SX-64.
T model is 48 10GB RJ45 ports and 4 QSFP+ ports.
S Model is 48 10GB SFP+ ports and 4 QSFP+ ports.

Bought them both for less than the cost of the last unmanaged 8 port TP-link 10GB switch off Amazon.

Don't be silly like me and check your cable lengths, I have a 0.5m OM3 Fibre to connect EX2300-12T to 10G OPNSense hehe, it's going to be an interesting cable installation this week.
