Port forwarding & DYNDNS doesn't seem to be working correctly

Hi! I am starting here in this forum, though the issue may be related to something else.
I am attempting to create a dedicated server for the game Space Engineers. Working through the documentation they recommend a static IP (SO I am using my DYNDNS account!!) and that I forward the port that you set in the dedicated server console (27015).
No matter what I do, I seem to be unable to:
1. Successfully test the port 27015 using a port checking tool (I tested this by setting up the same forward for RDP to the server, and using an online port checking tool, it successfully validated the port)
2. From outside my LAN, i.e. from a friends house, access my home GUI for Opensense via my DYNDNS Hostname OR IP dynamically assigned by my ISP.
I am forward this traffic to a Windows 2012 R2 Server. I have setup the Firewall rule to accept incoming traffic on UDP 27015.
I am just at a loss and the companies documents are pretty trash lol. But, many other people are doing it, so why can't I?
Thank you!!
Jeremy

Hi Jeremy,
Try a game client on the local LAN to confirm that the setup works without the firewall. Do a packet capture on the client and/or the server to see what the successful transactions look like. Wireshark is the most popular tool for Windows.
Telnet from outside the firewall on TCP 27015 and confirm you can see the traffic on the firewall and that the port is not showing as closed (time out is fine) and that you can see the packets in Wireshark on the server.
You will not be able to access the OPNsense GUI from outside the LAN without a VPN. Does the 2012 R2 server have the firewall as its default gateway?

Hi Bart! Thanks for the reply.
Yes - Local LAN, I can see the server and it works great! With or without the windows firewall enabled.
Good call on Wireshark... totally forgot about that.
Windows Firewall - This is were you got me.
1. Telnet to that server on that port does not work. (Sorry forgot to include) - I will get wireshark and see what is going on.
2. The static IP of the Windows Server does have the default gateway set to my Opensense box (gateway)
