Upgrading from beta to stable
« on: January 12, 2017, 11:25:26 pm »
If I install the beta, will I be able to upgrade to stable when it is released or would a fresh install be required?

17.1.b installs "opnsense-devel" GUI package.
17.1.r1 and up will install "opnsense" GUI package.

If you wait for 17.1.r1 or up, you will automatically land in the release track.

If you have 17.1.b now, you can switch to the release track as soon as 17.1.r1 is out:

# opnsense-update -t opnsense

The thing is that "opnsense" and "opnsense-devel" GUI packages will be the same until the final 17.1 comes out, so it doesn't matter know which one is installed, only that once 17.1 is out different tracks are used in the upgrade path. :)

Cheers,
Franco

PS: On a recent 16.7.x, when switching to "opnsense-devel" you can already upgrade to 17.1.b, so no need to install or reinstall in all cases.
