Select Source Interface for Remote Logging Target
« on: July 02, 2024, 10:59:01 am »
I'm setting up my first opnsense firewall, which is actually my first firewall. I'm going with a two-nics setup, a WAN an a LAN. I'm using OPNSense 24.1. I want to set a remote target for logging. The GUI allows you to do that under system->settings->logging-> remote. However when creating a remote logging target, the gui shows no field for selecting the interface used as source interface.

Any help on this?

Since all local interfaces create local routes that have the highest precedence, the traffic to the remote syslog target will take the best route and exit the interface that has the correct subnet attached.

Thanks for your reply. I can now focus on other causes for my failed setup. It's been painful getting opnsense to work with Elastic+Kibana.
