Cannot get PPPOE connection to ISP working (no VLAN)

I am testing out opnsense coming from mikrotik.

On my mtik the pppoe connection just works, see image attached. I did not have to setup any vlans for the mikrotik, username password and it just works.

I can't get the pppoe connection to work on either 24.1 or 23.7. See setup images.

Hardware: optical cable to on-premise ISP ONT (ISP Modem/Router). From ISP ONT via UTP to the mikrotik or OPNSense.

Thank you.

The Point to Point log is empty. It doesn't look like its doing anything. Is there supposed to be something here?

The log would probably tell something if you did not just enable "warning" level.

ue0 seems like a USB-to-ethernet interface, they are notoriously unreliable under FreeBSD, see [b= https://forum.opnsense.org/index.php?topic=30531.0]this[/b] for an example.

I am testing opnsense on old hardware before acquiring proper hardware if everything works out. I'll switch the WAN to the onboard LAN. Thanks for the tip.

Where do I go about changing the log level for pppoe?

You can change what is being filtered in the upper right of the pppoe log view.

Thanks. Looking at the log file helped. I needed to spoof the MAC of the interface.
