OPNSense current BE release - Azure Backup
«

Hi,
i have a problem with a opnsense azure instance and cannot get azure backup to sucessfully backup the VM. It keeps failing with error message "Could not communicate with the VM agent for snapshot status."
Any ideas how to fix this issue?

Does Azure offer the setting not to snapshot the VM memory but only the virtual disk?

not that I know of. The Azure Backup queries the snapshop status via the linux agent and probably gets no feedback there.

There is currently no azure agent plugin for OPNsense but there is a port for FreeBSD so that's a starting point.
You might want to try a manual installation of:
https://www.freshports.org/sysutils/azure-agent/
I'll look into how much work it would be to clone the os-vmware plugin and adapt it for azure.

Is it worth doing the work simply because of the vmware pricing and people jumping off left and right?

Hi Patrick,
the agent was already installiert (as expected in the offical deciso Azure Image). I have reinstalled it anyway, but unfortunately the problem persists.
In the VM overview the agent itself seems to be fine, could it be a firewall problem? I don`t see a dropped packet in the log, but you never know.

Sorry, no idea. I don't run anything on Azure.
