Logs on VPN Crash

Good day everyone and Happy New Year.
So, during recent holiday travels, I connected into my OPNSense router back home using my configured VPN (IPSec). I haven't had any issues before; however, this time, for some reason, my VPN dropped after a few minutes. Then, all of my IoT devices lost connectivity (started receiving connectivity alerts on my phone). Since I wasn't home, i couldn't log in to see what was wrong. Luckily, I set a cron job to reboot the router every day while I was gone so we're now back up and running back home.
My question is around the OPNSense logs:
In the case of a crash like that, are there logs that persist even after a reboot? If so, where can I find them?
If they do not persist and get cleared every reboot, I have a script that can check for connectivity and reboot the router if necessary (it's not currently running; but, I'm going to set it up to run every hour using cron). I'd like to amend the script to copy any logs to another place so I can save them to view later. Any recommendations on log locations for me to save in case of a crash like this again?
Thank you all in advance for your help.

Have you tried looking at the Log File under the OpenVPN entry in the menu?
