The enclosed document (which is probably a poorly formatted markdown document) is a step by step instruction including varions illustrations for recreating the problem using a factory reset router and switch. Skip to near the bottom to see the DHCP assignment and the problem that occurs. As noted in the document lowering the WAN_DHCP gateway priority (making it higher than the other interfaces) allowed the router to communicate to the internet and complete a request to check for updates. As far as a connected PC the internet was still unavailable. I probably mis-configured something; any hints as to fixing this (as it may be related to other issues) would be appreciated. If this a known problem then a Don't try that response will be accepted. This switch when attached includes an extra gateway. The switch has vlan gateways in addition to the VLan Interface (gateway) addresses in the router. I think this may have some play in the issue. This switch has two very different modes with Static Routing set to on or off. Off means vlans on the switch are separate, ON means the switch is in effect a party line and anything goes by default in terms of cross vlan access.

Any host can have only one interface configured with DHCP.

In the test I believe only one network address was via DHCP (sorry only one internal address in addition to the WAN address so really two) -- it was the main lan in the test you saw. I tried with a single lan Not the primary lan interface. Both blocked the internet. However your answer is indicative that "Dont try that: an answer I accept applies because eventually when I get one vlan (and one vlan in addition to the wan may be too many) to work I intended to do them all. (That part actually worked as long as I do not want to access the internet.) So thank you "Don't try that" is the final answer.

You are sure about that? Partially this makes sense, indeed. So what about the default gateway? Anyways- is this defined somewhere?
