just tried and this did work
thank you

I'll reply in the morning, but as I kind of expected.  I went from 30% system memory usage to 18% just by deleting those.
No I do not have the alias in use, I actually no longer use business editioni am, running the latest community

memory creeped up again.

I checked and these files ARE BACK??

how do this files automatically come back,   and why did memory go from 41% usage to 17%  after I deleted them again and rebooted?

I ssh'd into the console.  went to the folder posted above.  rm * and then typed ls and it was empty my last post

are these automatically installed because I went back to opnsense business since most of the latest vulnerabilities have been addressed?

Yes, they are automatically downloaded when you fill in your Maxmind link.

https://docs.opnsense.org/manual/how-tos/maxmind_geo_ip.html

I am not using the service and do not have a key inserted anywhere

So strange

I do not have business edition anywhere. These might be used in other places there as well. Now, if you do not have any GeoIP aliases, they don't use any memory. The files are sitting there. Hunting in a wrong place, I'm afraid.

I was wondering the same thing here for different reason. I loaded "country" csv and want to switch to "city" csv. I do not want to railroad this topic so I will post separately too on this topic.

But... how do you delete the "/usr/local/share/GeoIP" if you wanted to?

Thanks for considering my questions, admittedly a noob trying to learn as much as I can for a passion project
