Hi all, I need to access OPNsense installed on a DEC3860 hardware via serial console, this hardware has a one mini USB console port.
I tried connecting different mini USB to USB-C cables however I cannot get access to the serial console login screen.
Kindly could anyone please suggest a working cable for serial console access

I saw that topic however I need to get into the box via serial console and was wondering what cable I need to use because standard mini USB to USB-C cables I tried are not working and the issue is not related to serial connection parameters

Standard USB cables do work. They present a USB to serial adapter to the PC you connect. Your OS needs a driver for that - which
current
Windows, Mac OS, Linux, BSD ... have by default.
Check the connected hardware after plugging in according to your operating system.

As an Apple progress plagued user, don't you have a USB A to C adapter?
seriously, Mac user here, too. Everybody in my company has one of those small mobile docking stations with 2x USB A. Or at least a single port adapter.
When plugged in, there will be a new device named /dev/cu.<something>. I use minicom installed via Macports to connect. Homebrew probably has minicom, too.

"screen" is installed by default and the device on my end is some form of /dev/tty.usb*
And, yeah, you need an adapter in this this brave new world.

Yes I have but I tried 3 different standard cables and they do not work, so I was wondering whether the issue is related to cable or something else. I will try another standard USB cable then.

Did you look for a new device node in /dev? Which program are you trying to use?
