[Solved] Periodic ping spikes on virtualised OPNsense
«

Hi,
I am completely new to firewalls and OPNsense. I switched from my previous Unify installation to a N6005. I installed Proxmox and virtualised OPNsense on it. Currently installed is OPNsense 22.7.7_1-amd64, working with the default configuration + IPS/IDS.
Unfortunately, my ping has periodic lag spikes:
Do you have any idea which settings could affect this? What information can I provide so you can diagnose my problem easier?
Kind regards,
Jakob

Hi,
How often do you see latency spikes ? There is no time unit indication on the graph you supplied. Also, how many firewall aliases do you have ?
We run many virtualized OPNsense instances on Proxmox too and had to deal with minutely CPU spikes.
See:

Hope it helps,

Hi, thank you very much for your reply.
The timespan of the graph were 98 seconds.
I solved my issue yesterday by switching from Linux network bridges to PCI via IO_MMU. Now everything is working fine and the spikes are gone.
Kind regards,
Jakob
