Hi

I just received my DEC 740 from manufacturer. I have not yet received the SFP+ for it for my internet connection. I wanted for now just access GUI of device to make me familiar with it and prepare setup in it.
I have plugged an SFP+ patch cable between port X0 on DEC 740 and my XS508 netgear switch. On Netgear switch it indicates link is up at 10G and some traffic. Unhappy unable to access GUI of DEC 740 on 192.168.1.1 (its default address).
I tried 2 different SFP+ cables but same results, any idea what is wrong ? or did I miss something obvious. The leaflet included with DEC 740 indicates LAN port as being on X0.
The 2 patch cables I used:

https://www.digitec.ch/en/s1/product/ubiquiti-network-cable-050-m-network-cables-12775808?supplier=406802
Form what I understood I should use the one named Network cable (DAC) and not the twinax one !

Thanks for your lights, and ideas ;)

As far as I know the LAN is 1 G port 0, WAN 1 G port 1 on a factory new device. You need to do basic setup and then switch ports if you want to use SFP+ for LAN.

Alternatively connect a console cable and assign the network interface on the text console.

oh wow quite strange and just for my knowledge an SFP+ will not fall back at 1G if only 1G supported on one or both ends ?

yeah going to do that to get access to it and check what happens with port (will have to change that setting for both fiber ports in all matters !
Will post results as soon as I can do the test ;)

The interface assignment is fixed. The LAN interface is only on the 1 G port labelled "0". OPNSense does not have a builtin switch treating all ports the same. These are all individual routed interfaces. All other ports apart from "0" and "1" are inactive on a factory new device.

Thanks for explanations so I connected at console through USB port on it but I don't find any options there to setup ports speed ! I can modifiy network configuration, change assignation but nothing about speed/duplex....
Wiki only indicates how to do it through the GUI :(

You don't have a speed/duplex problem at the moment. You can only access the UI on the port labelled "0". That is by design. You cannot use the 10G port for the UI at the moment.

Sorry but completely lost there :( I never tried yet to use the 1G Ethernet port ! I had plugged with a SFP+ patch cable of port X0 to my Netgear switch so I could access the GUI of Opnsense but it doesn't work as explained in my original post here ! Port X1 is for WAN by default and all other ports inactive till I configure them I got that ;)
What am I doing wrong there ?
Sorry I had not seen your picture so you speak of Ethernet ports, I thought it was only fiber ports that were active by default :( shame on me ! Will try this way and let you know ;)

Sorry, mate, but ...

That's why I finally added the picture.

On a factory new device:

- "0" is LAN
- "1" is WAN

All other ports are deactivated!

If I had meant to say "X0" and "X1" I would have written "X0" and "X1".

And isn't that just as explicitly stated in the quick start guide you get with the unit? I don't have one at hand at the moment.

Thanks a lot and yep sorry for confusion :( I was convinced I don't know why it was only SFP+ ports that were active at first start !
Thanks to your advices I have been able to access the GUI through the port 0 of it and going to explore a little (I'm missing SFP+ module to connect it at my ISP line for now (DHL delays...).
