System Setup

Hello all,
Happy New Year to everyone! I hope you all were safe!
I have a current OPNsense setup that is working well, however I want to front end it with a dedicated system that will record ISP bandwidth statistics. My bandwidth device has a WAN NIC and a separate LAN NIC. I plan on connecting my ISP to the WAN port and then I was planning on connecting the LAN port to the WAN NIC on my OPNsense firewall.
Does anyone have any experience in fronting an OPNsense solution and if yes am I planning on the right connection to the WAN port of the OPNsense solution? I could do away with the traditional WAN port and just connect the bandwidth device to LAN port?
Thanks,
Steve

why not using the vnstat plugin on OPNsense? it gives you hourly, daily, monthly and yearly statistics about bandwith usage… you can also query it via API…
or do you need other information beside that?

I tried the vnstat plugin and its ok. Its very rudimentary. I am visualizing the data with ELK on the backend.
