Hyper-V issues - installer

Hi,

I'm trying to install opnSense on a Gen2 (tried Gen1, too) VM on Hyper-V Server. So far, the installer doesn't even get as far as a shell, as the VM suddenly shuts down halfway through boot, with no debugging info, and because it shuts down, Hyper-V Manager shows no display.

I also tried installing FreeBSD and using the opnSense bootstrap script. FreeBSD booted just fine, and the bootstrap script was installed, and when I rebooted, the same issue occurred as the installer did (ISO).

I think it is related to HardenedBSD, but I'm at a loss as to the solution.

Anyone else experiencing this? Thanks!

Did you disable secure boot ? I just ran through a Hyper V install (Gen2) in my lab and it loads just fine.

Yep, Secure Boot is disabled. I'm running this on a HP MicroServer N54L - I'm quite sure it worked before.

I've tried on both generations... it's very strange. Also tried it on the 20.x series, same issue.

I did a Hyper-V update when I first installed the server, to keep up to date. Wondering if that has something to do with it... I'm using the standalone Hyper-V Server from Microsoft.

Review your Hyper-V logs to see if the problem you are experiencing is logged. Based on the model of your server it may be a hardware limitation.
