Unable to install after selecting keyboard layout

Hello, Having difficulty installing opnsense for first time.
I'm able to access webgui and essentially run opnsense in live mode, but if i attempt to run installer function i get stuck on screen asking if i want to install with ufs/zfs options. After i select keyboard layout i'm presented with said screen and if i perform any action a light blue cursor in lower left corner appears and if i click or press a key again a black section appearing to be a prompt shows at bottom of screen which will show key presses but doesn't execute any command if press enter or k to make a selection on screen. Clicking on ok with mouse does nothing as well.
I've tried different keyboards, layouts, and checked for any keyboard related options in bios but didnt find anything. Motherboard is an asus z97-a.
Appreciate any help. Looking forward to getting this working. Ty.

Hi,
What sort of hardware are you using? Is this an EFI console?
You could always try the older 21.1 images, but they also do not behave in EFI setups as far as the installer goes.

Not too clear on what you mean by efi console unfortunately. If you're asking if i'm remote connecting in some fashion than no. This is just a standard pc with consumer level bits, monitor, kb/mouse attached directly etc. motherboard is an asus z97a. Bios is uefi. This is with vga version on install btw.
I've tried the dvd version which errors out in windows bootable usb apps like rufus saying its unrecognized. Tried in unbuntu which i'm not familiar with tbh and closest i got was renaming it as a .img file but when using brasero it flies through the process in 1 sec so i know its not successfully writing to usb stick.
Is there a portal on opnsense site for older versions to try? Scratch that part i found them. Trying that now.

Sure EFI is (U)EFI... My guess is that it works fine if you use the SSH installer.

Thaaat was a lot of updates. Got it up and running off ssd now using older version. I did try to ssh into system but i dont know if i was doing something wrong but it wasn't taking any passwords.
Wonder what problem was. I know system wasn't frozen as keyboard strokes were showing up on screen at bottom, just didn't seem to connect with prompt at the time.
Glad its working now though. Got a few hours of work ahead of me now.
