I recently purchased a DEC850 from the Opnsense store. Everything has been going great except for one thing... The SFP+ ports don't seem to work (ax0 and ax1).

I am using a Ubiquiti UF-RJ45-10G (which is listed as supported on the DEC850 page). I tried it in a unifi switch and everything worked great. I put it into the SFP+ ports in the DEC850 and doing an ifconfig shows "status: no carrier".

I manually specified the link type with "ifconfig ax1 media 1000BASETX" but still no luck. Does anyone have any troubleshooting tips?

I'm using the same computer / NIC / cable that I used in the Unifi switch (which works) to eliminate any variables.

Are they backward compatible with 1000BaseTX? They may not be ...

The Unifi transceiver is at least. To get it to work on the Unifi switch I just had to explicitly specify 1Gb on both sides instead of auto negotiate.

I was hoping to do the same thing when I plugged the transceiver into the DEC850, but have not been having luck.

Additionally, if I do "ifconfig -m ax1" It lists 1000BaseT as a supported media type.

That looks good. But if you bought from the OPNsense store why aren't you opening a ticket with Deciso but take this to a community forum where hardly anyone owns that precise piece of equipment?

Not intending to be rude, just raising awareness that this is not in any way an official OPNsense/Deciso support channel. We are all just users here and some of the developers like Franco are so kind to chime in if time permits.
Anyway if I had just bought a piece of equipment and it didn't behave as expected the absolute first thing would be to ring the seller. ;) Within an hour of encountering the problem the latest. I buy your stuff - you support it.

Kind regards,

I appreciate that. I didn't realize that this wasn't the official channel for getting support. I will reach out to Deciso directly. Thanks again.

If anyone is curious, I reached out to Deciso and they said it wasn't considered a stable configuration. The solution (if I really want 1gbE) is to just use a 1gb SFP module. This isn't an issue for me since I was just testing the ports and eventually plan to put 10gbE into that SFP+ port in the future.
