What am I supposed to do, to keep a somewhat current system?

Have you tried upgrading via the web console?

normally it should work over the WebUI.
I already upgraded some systems from 19.1 to the currenct version -  they are running fine

But don't forget to backup before

What did you wind up doing here? I'm seeing the same thing now in my Web UI, and I'm a little nervous to click "upgrade" on a downgrade for the router that my wife and I both use for WFH.

It looks like you're running a beta release? If you check your firmware settings, is it set to "community" or is it still set to development?

Too much false info here...

Check /var/cache/opnsense-update/.upgrade.log

Your packages do not install during the 21.1 upgrade likely due to third party package involvement.

Usually removing the offending package will fix the upgrade and you can reinstall it afterwards.
