is it possible to update ntopng directly from their repo in CLI?  I have no experience on how to do so, but very hesitant because I fear it will break... a lot.

current version in their repo:
ntopng-4.3.210331.txz

current version as of OPNsense 21.1.3_3-amd64:
4.2.210309 (0) - Community Edition

We have no experience with duplicated package names in third party repos and kindly asked everyone publishing them not to do it to avoid such conflicts.

Cheers,
Franco

Not sure where you're seeing ntop 4.2.210309 (0).  I have a fully updated OPNSense and just installed ntopng and it's at version 3.4.0 as reported in the web ui.

There's also an issue with the ntopng-geopip2update.sh file.  The URL's in the file are wrong - the subdomain doesn't exist.  Needed to update the URL's, which need to include the MaxMind license key.

There should also be a way to enter the MaxMind key in the OPNsense UI.

When I recently tested ntopng I installed the plugin which was at version 3.4.0. I opened the ntopng webui and a popup window showed asking if I wanted to update to the latest 4+ version. I clicked on update but it didn't update and instead sent me to the ntop website. I found instructions on the ntop website on how to update to the latest version:

https://www.ntop.org/guides/ntopng/third_party_integrations/opnsense.html

You can install the enterprise version, and although it's just a demo, you can revert to the community edition by going to the OPNsense webui and under Services -> ntopng -> License check the community edition checkbox. All this information is provided in the link above.

I wasn't able to test it long and it seemed to work fine.

apology in response delay.. been very busy w/ work.

this is the version that is reported directly in ntopng > help > about pages.

3.4.0 is apparently the reported nDPI version within ntopng package
