I have an HP ProLiant MicroServer Gen8 G1610T in my closet. Procesor IntelĀ® CeleronĀ® G1610T (2 rdzenie, 2,3 GHz, 2 MB, 35 W), 4GB ram. Is it good for a home router with opnsense?

I am currently using as a router Archer VR600 tp-link. I would like to leave it as an access point for wifi devices and a switch for cable devices, NAS disk, printer. WAN port use PPPoE.
Sometimes ~ 10-13 devices are connected to the network.
The TP-link router works, but when I turn on, for example, parental protection or other advanced functions, it starts to crash.
Sometimes I suspect he has an unstable power supply too.
Will hp with opnsense be better at managing a home network than tp-link?

I have the same box. I upgraded it with a used XEON E3-1220 V2 and 8GB of ECC Ram.
I don't use it as a bare metal version. I'm using it as an ESXi host but this is just personal preference.

Works great so far.

In your opinion, such a set will work better and more stable than TP-link?

Depends on your wishes regarding features. But I would say yes.

You have to keep in mind: it will consume more energy, so your electricity bill will be higher. My Gen8 with the Xeon consumes around 35W with a normal working load (VMWare ESXi with 3 VMs and one of them is OPNsense). Rarely see it above 70W when the VMs are having more to do.

OP, did you manage to install OPNSense to boot from SD Card and have the OS reside on the SDD attached to ODD?

I made a post here as well: https://forum.opnsense.org/index.php?topic=37058.msg181306#msg181306

Thanks
