Upgrade went wrong

Hi,

I just upgraded to OPNsense 20.1.2-amd64 and the box did no longer boot.
warning: L1 data cache covers less APIC IDs then a core 0 < 1

Force shutdown, reboot, no luck
After leaving it off for a minute I could start the box again.

Should I be worried?

Might be an intermittent hardware response failure. The message was reported a few times in the forum but never as a fatal boot message so maybe it is normal for certain hardware.

How old is the hardware?

Franco

The hardware is about 3 years old.
I've been doing some more test, looks like my KVM switch is broken.  Could that been the cause?

Hm, OPNsense is a VM in KVM?

I've seen glitches in VM boots over the years with all hypervisors. Next reboot back to normal.

Franco

No, I have a KVM switch in the rack where my box and some servers are attached to.
OPNsense is on a Supermicro superserver E200.

Okay, are you suggesting the KVM switch tricked you into thinking the machine was stuck or was it really not booting?

Franco

It was not booting at all.
I was doing the upgrade remote. Had to go to box, screen stayed black because of the KVM switch.
I took a screenshot, see attachment.

Hmm, I don't think it was the KVM switch then. It wouldn't be able to "halt" the boot process.

I have had issues with my Logitech USB mouse and kb connected to a usb switch selector.
After connecting KB+Mouse directly to my Opnsense box the issue went away.

Thanks for your reply.
So it good be the switch.
