System hanging on reboot

I've been trying to migrate from pfSense to OPNSense and I'm hitting an issue with regards to rebooting the system.

It is hanging after outputting "Uptime : xxxxx" ... I have tried this on both 17.7.5 and the newest 18.1 version and I get the same issue.

The box I'm using is one of these https://protectli.com/product/fw6/ ... I have 8GB of RAM and a 64GB MSATA card.  The thing that confounds me is it is working fine with pfSense.

Any ideas on what might be causing this?

Is this the same issue on pfSense or not? We're both on 11.1 as far as OPNsense 18.1 goes and I know that multiple users reported a similar issue which wasn't ok on 17.7 but resolved itself with 18.1.

If you tested 18.1, make sure you have a 11.1 kernel. Some variants of 18.1 may have ended up being a GUI package depending on which guide you followed.

pfSense has never had this issue for me.

pfsense crashed at every boot on my new box, couldn't even assign an ip to my lan clients. Don't believe there's any logical way to compare the two. Two different products.

We need a little more direction with verifiable version numbers. I can't keep mentioning FreeBSD and OPNsense numbers for comparison if there is nothing to compare to.

OK, I reinstalled and went to the newest stable (not devel) release and it's working.

Version codes are as follows:

OPNsense 17.7.12-amd64
FreeBSD 11.0-RELEASE-p17
OpenSSL 1.0.2n 7 Dec 2017

Yes, I do not understand why, but reinstalling OPNSense fixed the problem.  The thing that is strange is that no amount of power cycling or resetting of configuration fixed it before (and the rest of the system was operating correctly as far as I could tell).

I have also run into some issues and just had to reinstall OPNsense. Usually from making too many major configuration changes like adding or removing packages. Rule changes never affected anything. I learned that it is crucial to make a backup when you get to a stable point so you can reinstall back to the same point if an issue occurs. I have never had to reinstall from a stable working configuration.
I think this is just the nature of the FreeBSD beast. That is why you get everything just right before releasing into production, then leave it alone.
