Hi alll,

I'm new here. I hope I posted in the right place, otherwise please move it to the right one.

I'm running OPNsense (Version 24.7.6-amd64) on a mini PC with two 1Gb NIC's. I have a 1000/100Mbps connection through my ISP.

I have installed the "os-speedtest-community" plugin and when I run the speedtest I get about 550/110Mbps reading. But doing it from my PC I get about 940/110Mbps.

So I'm actually not complaining about my speed, but more wondering about measurement, when I run it from OPNsense. Can anyone explain it to me?

EDIT: All of my traffic from my LAN goes through the OPNsense, which is the only device connected directly to my ISP's router.

TIA
Martin

Did you use the same server as counterpart? The automatic selection does not always have the same outcome.

Yes, I am testing towards the same counterpart. As mentioned I just find it strange, and have no real issue.

I'm noticing the same issue. I'm currently running os-speedtest-community 0.9_6 on OPNsense 25.7.3_7. I have a 1Gbps fiber connection and use the plugin manually to test the speed from time to time. In May 25 when I did the last test it reported about 933Mbps down. These last couple of days the results were about 637Mbps down. Performing the speedtest to the same servers on my Laptops browser which is 2 switches away from Opnsense I receive about 930Mbps down.

Any idea why I'm not seeing this community speedtest plugin available under Firmware -> Plugins -> [Show Community] ? I am definitely interested in a plugin like this, I had installed the package 'py311-speedtest-cli' a bit ago for cli use.

Because it is in the mimugmail repository, which you have to install first: https://github.com/mimugmail/opn-repo

Ah thank you! Any significance with them not being included in the Opnsense repository of community plugins - unvetted, discouraged, deemed 'less-than', etc... ? Or is this me just conflating 'community edition' with 'user community' and all those [show community plugins] are 1st party.

Anybody is free to not deliver their plugins in the Deciso community-supported plugins. Deciso themselves discriminate between the core set of functionality, which are not even plugins and plugins, which are augmented or not maintained as vigorously as the main product and "community plugins", which are written and donated by the community. Think of mimugmail's repository as a 4th category.

That being said, the os-speedtest plugin shows up as "misconfigured" since a few releases.
