Could developers of OS please use less fancy but more user-friendly UI for Edit Alias/Content field? We don't really need the fancy 'Tag'-like field there which does not allow the existing contents to be copied to clipboard w/o resorting to browser inspect function. OS is not a social network for dimwits, it is a tool for network professionals who are not really seeking fancy staff in their router admin UIs. Cheers and thanks!

Since we are on the web UI topic, could developers also increase the height of netmask dropdowns from 5 to 32? This is if it is totally impossible to combine address/mask fields into one which would have been ideal because our networks already come in the format of 12.34.56.78/11 from all sources, and splitting them into the fancy UI is a RPITA. I agree. Also annoyed by these UI problems.

Also want to add a painful issue in the HAproxy settings. I have configured about 20 rules, but if I want to add one to a public service or a backend pool, only the the first about 10 are shown up in the drop-down. I need to type in some characters of the rule name to be able to select the desired one, which requires to know its name.
Generally the HAproxy UI in OPNsense seems pretty flubbed and illogical to me. In my opinion it would be more clear and easier configuring HAproxy with its default config file.

Could not that bloat the rule page even more? IMHO the current checkbox/arrow button combo works great from the UX PoV, but I already have to wait quite some time after the page is displayed, because it renders 1/4 way and once it is being scrolled down it pauses for 20-30 sec and renders the rest of 3/4. Yes, I have that many rules. It's not an easy task from web design standpoint to develop simultaneously an efficient, user-friendly, and quick UI, but I'd already written about how we could benefit from its pagination instead of all rules being dumped on one page. Unfortunately, some pages default to 7 items, which is too few, whereas firewall rule page defaults to all records, which is too many. If only someone agreed to invert these limits...

It seems like this functionality already exists in some places (e.g. DNSCrypt-Proxy plugin).  It uses the 'Tag'-like fields as you call them, but there is also a 'Text' mode that makes it easy to copy/edit:

Yes! There are good examples of user-friendly UI all over the web admin. All that's necessary is to transplant them to the pain points. So, the effort will be minimal.

Personally, I really like the new floating panel style rules editor.  I don't have any Automation rules to play around with but it feels like it should be quicker to make rule changes without having to navigate away from the rules list each time.  Also good to see the 'Text' mode included in the Categories field.

I'm a little on the fence regarding the drop-down menu to select within Floating / Groups / Interfaces.  I think I see where it's headed: you would be able to collapse all the rules into a single Firewall->Rules view and maybe do away with the links in the left side navigation bar for each group/interface?  The downside is that it adds clicks.  Right now it's a single click to change between interfaces on the left side menu.  With the proposed change I think it's two clicks: one to bring up the filter box and one to select the interface.  However it is more visually focused.

Also really like the Advanced mode indicator icon and floating text to show which advanced options are set!  Nice to have that visibility front and center.

I'm guessing the icon legend at the bottom of the rules list and the ability to quickly toggle logging on/off by clicking the icon is Work in Progress- not that those are going away.
