Send filterlog via json

Is there not a way to send the firewall logs via json?  I have it currently using syslog but it would be great if we could use a logging technology from the 21st century.

Do you want to be the one going to the *nix and *bsd developer groups to tell them they are using a logging technology from before the 21st century, and why in your opinion it needs to change?
