Siprpoxd

Been doing voip for decades but for the life of me cannot figure out what the damn thing wants.
Basically, enable siproxd and stare at its config. Why does it allow LAN or WAN iface for its inbound? Should it not be multiple choice since voip connections can be originated both on the LAN as well as from the outside?
Anyhow, I enable LAN iface for inbound. Everything is default except for the RTP port range that I put from 20000 to 30000. Now I create a user. Should work but does not: linphone does not connect. Have not done wireshark yet, been busy, but the silence between siproxd and linphone is deafening. Nothing in the opnsense logs that I can see: sirpoxd starts, and that is it.
MicroSIP under Windowze tries to connect but fails and shows request timeout.
The firewall is wide open for the LAN. This is what I see under current registration:
****:1:1........9 <= Dunno what this number is.
sip:myuser@192.168.10.1 <= So it does try to connect? Why fails?
sip:myuser@192.168.10.1
sip:myuser@mydomain
****:0:0
****:0:0 <= Dunno what this is.
****:0:0
...
****:0:0
****:0:0
****:0:0

Hold on right there! Is siproxd not a SIP server but only a SIP proxy to the outside? Yuck!
