Setting up - Cannot connect to Internet

My old set up was an Asus Router and my FTTH would connect directly to the router.
I have a static IP but in the ASUS settings it was just set up as “automatic” and used DHCP. To get the FTTH working I just needed to set the VLAN ID to 10. It didn’t use PPPOE or require authentication. That all worked grand.
I purchased a Protectli 4-port and installed the newest version of OPNsense a few days ago. That all went fine but I’m having a terrible time getting the WAN part to function. LAN is function fine (I can access my plex server no issue)
What I have done:
I went to the VLAN setting and set one up with the tag 10 and assigned it to the WAN parent at igb0
Then I went to assignments and selected WAN and changed it from igb0 to igb0_vlan10.
First I tried setting as static IP and for ipv4 entering in my static IP.
I had went to the firewall rules. Cloned the LAN settings and changed them to WAN so that way everything was pass to test things.
That did not work.
I then changed the WAN settings to DHCP. It would automatically find the static IP and then assigned a gateway. Grand. But still I don’t have access.
I try to ping from the box to anywhere outside and it doesn’t work.
I think I’m missing something obvious but I just can’t figure it out.
I found this person who has a similar situation (except they aren’t static) and tried following what they did:-
https://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=40&topicid=293308
My settings match and it’s not working for me.
I’ve turned off my OTC and back on several times.
I’m in Ireland and my system is Magnet through NBI.
I’ve spent about nine hours today trying different things and nothing seems to work.
Thank you in advance for your help!

First off, you shouldn't need any WAN rules to make outbound connections work, so please remove them to save yourself from a terrible security problem.
Second, I would start off monitoring the firewall live log while pinging to see if things get dropped or pass, etc.
Also you can try pinging stuff like 8.8.8.8 or even the next gateway from your provider directly from opnsense with interface set to WAN, to rule out your LAN as the problem.

Hello,
Thank you - I’ll remove the WAN rules.
I’ve tried pinging from WAN in the diagnostic setting and it fails .
I’ll check the firewall live log again.
Thank you so much

It could also be something simple like, in my experience, after changing fundamental settings (like WAN interface), sometimes opnsense behaves weird and buggy until rebooted.
So try rebooting after setting the foundational settings as you like, and see if it makes a difference (if you haven't already done so)

I rebooted my FTTH box and also the protectli and it doesn’t seem to have helped

Start at the beginning. You are vague about the internet connection. Static vs Dynamic. It probably is just dynamic. Add the "interfaces" applet to the dashboard and make sure WAN has an INTERNET IP.
(not 192.168.1.x).
The default config for opnsense is the first interface (igb0) is the LAN. So you changed this or you cabled it incorrectly (note: i prefer wlan on the first interface myself, but you have to be aware)
After that LAN (internet) should just work.
Connect a wired system to igb1 and make sure this works. After that you can connect a switch.

Did this thread ever get resolved? I have the exact same issue where it's a fresh install on a physical box. I have my WAN connected via DHCP (it's assigned IP address from my ISP) and LAN is connected via 192.168.1.1 and I'm able to access the GUI on my PC after setting my IP address to 192.168.1.3
I'm able to ping 8.8.8.8 from 192.168.1.1 but I have no internet access on my PC. Please heeeelp!
