I don't really like that pi-hole is in python as opposed to go, and requires root. I did see blocky which is small and stand-a-lone Go executable, (like Adguard Home), however it has no integration to opnsense. This video has performance metrics for the three options.Then there's pfblocker, which can be used with opnsense. It looks like it integrates nicely. I found this video Lawrence Tech video which shows it with pfsense, however adding those rules to pf may impact performance as there's a lot of rules.
