NoIP.com getting updated to desktop client VPNs public IP

Full disclosure I'm pretty new with Opnsense so please forgive me in advance if I use the wrong terminology or have a completely wrong idea of how something works
Previous to OPNsense I never had this problem. So I feel I either have a setting wrong or just don't have a good enough grasp on all this yet or both lol
I'll try to remember everything I've touched in case something stands out and I may not know if it's related to the issue
Installed Opnsense on one of those purpose built routers.
Straight talk home wifi router/modem combo set to passive mode. Turns off DHCP and Wi-Fi
WAN and LAN configured as DHCP
Gateway
Dynamic
Enabled upstream gateway
Monitor IP 8.8.8.8
Firewall
Enabled Reflection for port forwards & Automatic outbound NAT for Reflection
Rules - one to allow inbound OpenVPN traffic and another to pass the VPN clients to the specified subnet
OpenVPN
TLS Auth enabled for Auth and encryption
CA and server and user certs
DDNS
NoIP
custom
DynDNS 2 - protocol
dynupdate.no-ip.com - server
Hostname is set to my dynamic hostname
interface IPV4 - check ip method
WAN - interface to monitor
Checked force SSL
Unbound DNS enabled (really not sure if I need this or have it configured correctly)
All - network interfaces
All - Outgoing Network Interfaces
unchecked all other settings.
Now here is where I am totally lost
How is it possible noip.com is getting my VPNs public 154.6.x.x IP?
Especially when it's split tunneled to only route chrome and a torrent client through it
could it be the VPN DNS settings?
I've left it set to defaults which is
network > PIA DNS
name servers - follow app rules
I did find something interesting (to me at least) when I downloaded the NoIP dynamic update client that I just set to my physical network adapter at the time of me writing this. Maybe not having that client and set to the right network adapter kind of just let Opensense and noip.com get confused somehow? IDK but this is driving me insane lol
I feel like my lack of understanding of DNS could be the key here
what opnsense should be telling noip my public IP is
what it randomly decides to update to, and I can't replicate it at will.
does this matter which one I choose or is the PIA DNS default fine since it only tunnels chrome and a torrent client?
not sure about this one either
if needing this NoIP client was my problem all along, NoIP sucks and I quit

Just to be clear. This was happening to me for weeks without the noip client, which I just installed today
